MAKULULU CHILD PROTECTION HUB

WHERE: Makululu, Kabwe, Central Province
FUNDING PARTNER: CMMB Inc.
IMPLEMENTING PARTNERS: Makululu Home Based Care
2023
WHAT: The Hub was created in Makululu with the aim of creating a community structure that complimented the gains achieved through our ongoing Kusamala III project. The hub offered support groups for children of different ages. Each group focused on unique functions, including role modelling, peer education and capacity building. Edutainment was and is still used to prevent family separation. The Makululu Child Protection Hub is a community space that serves as a meeting point for children, youth, and adults to connect, share, and learn. The hub identified and addressed the needs of residents, teenage parents, families with young children, older people, caregivers, people with disability, in school and out of school youths. During the project, 670 children were reached with messages of streetism, peer pressure, substance abuse, and family strengthening; 209 children were trained in life skills such as goal setting, negotiation skills, leadership skills, and effects of substance abuse; and 155 identified children at risk of separation were prevented from going into the streets or childcare facilities, among others.
