Support an AIDS Free Era (SAFE)

WHERE: Copperbelt Province, Central Province and North-Western Province.
To make Zambia AIDS free, the SAFE project worked towards contributing to the United Nations 95-95-95 targets.

WHAT: This project worked towards ensuring that 95% of HIV-positive individuals knew their HIV status, that 95% of those who tested positive received ART, and that 95% of those on ART were virally suppressed. Overall, the goal was to strengthen the health system to support the UN’s 95–95–95 objectives. To achieve this, the project provided voluntary medical male circumcision to priority populations to avert new infections, integrated voluntary family planning services into 95% of HIV service delivery locations, strengthened referral systems and provided escorted referrals and reached 90% of eligible HIV-positive adults and children with nutrition assessment and counselling services.
-Developed community based volunteers tool kit and engagement guide’
-Formed differentiated service delivery groups, including support groups
-Supported integration of family planning, nutrition assessment counseling and support, Tuberculosis Bacilli, Cancer screening and voluntary medical male circumcision
-Implemented A Peer-to-Peer Model to reach adolescents
-Conducted HIV testing and counseling, focusing on index testing, in communities for SAFE-targeted populations, including children, adolescents, young men and women, and other most-at-risk populations, and provided escorted referrals to health facilities and other services
-Built a Bidirectional Community–Facility Referral System and Community-Level Support
